Brief Bio:
I am a licensed clinical psychologist and an Associate Professor of Psychiatry and Pediatrics at the University of Connecticut School of Medicine. My research publications span three main themes that broadly center on (1) understanding social and biological factors that play a role in determining a child’s risk or resilience after exposure to trauma, adversity, or maltreatment, (2) developing and evaluating tools and methods for assessing and quantifying trauma exposure and associated mental health outcomes, and (3) evaluating trauma-informed interventions and identifying key factors that facilitate positive change.I currently co-lead a 5-year grant funded by the National Institute of Mental Health to track risk and resilience factors in young children exposed to family violence. I also anticipate co-leading a new 5-year grant funded by the National Institute of Child Health and Development to study pandemic-related stress and trauma among families with infants. My research lab, the Family Adversity and Resilience Research (FARR) program, incorporates multiple levels of data that include clinical interview, behavioral observation, neurophysiology, and epigenetics. Clinically, I treat posttraumatic stress and other mental health disorders in children and adolescents in our Psychological Trauma Clinic operating out of our UConn Outpatient Psychiatry Clinic in West Hartford.
