Lynn F. Bufka, PhD, ABPP

Lynn F. Bufka, PhD, ABPP is Associate Chief, Practice, at the American Psychological Association. Dr. Bufka leads APA’s efforts to create opportunities for psychologists to best meet the needs of the public and advance population health. This includes embracing new approaches, models and conceptualizations of practice that are grounded in psychological science and are responsive to health equity and emerging challenges. Dr. Bufka’s career professional focus has been on utilizing clinical science to inform programs and policies relevant to psychology practice with the ultimate aim of supporting and improving the quality of care. Dr. Bufka is an advocate for science to support practice and practice-based evidence to inform research and policy. Current areas of emphasis include population health, evidence-based practice, guideline development, dissemination and implementation, fostering stronger integration of practice-based evidence in ongoing decision making and defining the direction of the future of psychology education and practice. Dr. Bufka frequently serves as a media spokesperson for the APA on stress and anxiety, particularly as related to current events, and policy matters relevant to mental health and psychological practice.  

Dr. Bufka is board certified in clinical psychology and maintains licensure as a psychologist in Maryland, providing treatment and clinical consultation on a limited basis. Her expertise is in the delivery and evaluation of cognitive behavioral therapy for anxiety disorders. She is a Fellow of both APA and the Association of Behavioral and Cognitive Therapies (ABCT), in addition to a member of the Maryland Psychological Association and Asian American Psychological Association.
