I help people live more full, satisfying, and personally meaningful lives. I am particularly interested in working with adults and adolescents whose lives have become narrowed and preoccupied by emotional and health problems. I also work with couples to reconnect or strengthen their relationship, particularly in the face of difficult life transitions or challenges. I especially enjoy helping individuals and families manage medical and health problems. Often I help people initiate and maintain life style changes like weight loss, increased physical activity, or sticking with medical regimens.
I use evidence-based cognitive-behavioral therapies, tailored to the needs of each individual or couple. My primary approach is Acceptance & Commitment Therapy, which encourages clients to engage in values-based, positive behaviors while experiencing difficult thoughts and emotions. ACT emphasizes values, forgiveness, self-compassion, and living in the present.
My work with couples builds emotional connection and strengthens or repairs the foundations of the relationship using Emotion Focused Therapy combined with cognitive-behavioral skills.
